Compliments of the Season / 12th Dec 2008

gift

Interesting things compliments don't you think? Often treated with suspicion and regularly contradicted or rebuked by the recipient. That kind of response says more about you and yourself esteem than you know.

Whilst I appreciate that not all compliments are sincere; if you've been shopping for a party dress recently I'm sure you'll have come across a few. But those that are genuinely given shouldn't be thrown back with put downs but acknowledged with 2 little words 'thank you'. Please note the full stop!

Think of a compliment as a gift and learn to accept it with grace. From another perspective the joy is in the giving so don't take that away from someone.

Here's one of the Successful Steps Teams favourite quotes for your consideration

'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be?'
Nelson Mandela

I remembered your post after my little girl told the fabric lady that her mum was a really good sewer. I did the usual thing of 'Oh no, I'm not'. I noticed the confused look on her face. So from now on, Thank you it is.
I want her to know that if I compliment her on something, I really mean it and she should enjoy the compliment
It sounds like common sense, yet very powerful.

Unfortunately, it was not Nelson Mandela who wrote or spoke it. I thought you might be interested in knowing where it really came from. ...
